LATE LAST YEAR, STARBUCKS BEGAN A NATIONAL ROLLOUT IN THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA WHICH WILL EVENTUALLY SEE POWERMAT CHARGE SPOTS INSTALLED IN ALL OF ITS LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT THE U.S.
To find out how wireless charging was impacting shopping behaviour in the Bay Area, we recently conducted an online survey of consumers using wireless charging -- and the results have gotten us more charged up than a double shot of espresso.
Having the ability to wirelessly charge your phone on the go appears to be an attractive value-add for consumers, with 79 percent of survey respondents agreeing that it would positively influence their decision to visit a venue. In addition, 4 out of 5 people said they would visit a store at least once more per week, with 86 per cent claiming the Powermat charging stations would increase the amount of time they spend at the location, and 56 per cent believing they would spend more money while there.
It seems wireless charging can also have a positive “halo” effect on brand perceptions. Eighty-five per cent of survey respondents said they would have a more positive image of a store that offered wireless charging, while 4 in 5 people said they would be more likely to recommend that store to a friend.
Finally, the survey showed that more than half of customers (56%) would be interested in having coupons or special offers delivered to their smartphone while they charged up wirelessly -- which is one of the big benefits the Powermat platform offers its partner businesses.
